Preparing for situational questions in customer-support interviews
Support interviews lean on scenarios: a customer who demands a refund outside policy, a ticket that sat too long, or a product outage during peak hours. Interviewers want to hear how you balance empathy, rules, and escalation.
Use a simple structure: situation, action, result, and what you would adjust next time. Keep the situation to two sentences. Spend most of your answer on what you did — listened, restated the issue, checked the account, offered an allowed remedy, or involved a supervisor — and on the outcome for the customer and the queue.
Practise aloud in the language of the interview. Many German support centres mix German customer contact with English tooling vocabulary; if that is your case, say so calmly rather than apologising. In our interview preparation sessions we often stop candidates who jump to “I would always…” without describing a real past case — hiring panels notice the difference.
